WEST POINT, N.Y. - Errors cost the Air Force volleyball team a three-game match to service academy rival Army on Friday, Aug. 31, in its first match of the Volley in the Valley Tournament in West Point, N.Y. The Falcons succumbed to the Black Knights by 30-16, 30-20, 30-20 scores to fall to 2-2 on the season.
Offensively, the Falcons hit .127 for the match, including a .211 in the third set. However, it was the serving that doomed the Falcons. Air Force allowed Army 16 service aces, while committing 15 errors during its own serves.
Sophomore Michelle Harrington led the Falcons with nine kills and a .571 hitting percentage. She also accounted for one of the team's three aces. Senior setter Kim Kallabis tallied 18 assists, while freshman Stephanie Stanford added five. Sophomore Katie Batchelder led the team with eight digs, while freshman Nichole Stilwell took part in a match-best three blocks.
Air Force continues action at the Volley in the Valley Tournament tomorrow (Sept. 1). The Falcons will play Quinnipiac at 11 a.m., in West Point, before traveling to Poughkeepsie, N.Y., to take on Marist at 7 p.m.
