Stephanie Stanford Tallies Four Aces in Loss at TCU

FORT WORTH, Texas - Despite a career-best four service aces from freshman Stephanie Stanford, the Air Force volleyball team dropped a three-game set at TCU on Friday, Sept. 21, in Mountain West Conference action. The Falcons succumbed to the Horned Frogs by 30-15, 30-15 and 30-12 scores at the Rickel Building in Fort Worth, Texas.
Air Force took a 2-1 lead, backed by a block from junior Jasamine Pettie and freshman Nichole Stilwell. The Horned Frogs scored the next five points, before a pair of kills from freshman Caroline Kurtz brought the Falcons within three (7-4). Pettie added a trio of tallies, as did sophomore Katie Batchelder. Freshman Jessica Hellmann posted a quick kill, but TCU took the game by a 30-15 score.
TCU scored t he first three points of the second set, but Batchelder served up an ace to bring the Falcons within one at 3-2. Air Force stayed just one down at the 5-4 mark, before Stanford recorded back-to-back aces to tie the game at seven. The two teams traded the next several points, until the Horned Frogs served the next eight points to take a 19-10 lead. Batchelder added another kill, but TCU responded with the next five points. Pettie posted one kill and teamed up with sophomore Michelle Harrington for a block, but Air Force fell 30-15.
Three different Falcons posted kills and Stanford tallied her third ace of the night during the first five points of the third set. TCU, which had taken an early 6-1 lead, pulled out to 18-7 lead midway through the set. Batchelder added another kill and Stanford put down her fourth ace, but Air Force dropped the set by a 30-12 score.
Air Force returns to the Academy next weekend for a pair of matches with Mountain West Conference foes, Utah and BYU, on Sept. 28-29. It will mark the Falcons' first
