Air Force Opens Boxing Season at Navy

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - After weeks of preparation, the Air Force boxing team officially kicks off the 2007-08 season this Friday (Sept. 28), as it travels to Annapolis, Md., for the annual showdown with service academy rival Navy. The Falcons and Midshipmen will take to the ring for nine bouts, ranging from 150- to 195-pounds. Action between the two service academies is slated to begin at 7:30 p.m., at Navy's MacDonough Hall.
Sophomore Ken Kaczmarek opens the event with a 150-pound contest against Navy's Rubin Zweiban. Junior Nathan Liptak will face Denny East in a 155-pounds contest, while senior Brian Navin will match up with Ian Simon at 158 pounds and sophomore John Doeseckle and Cannon Pattillo will toe the line in a 168-pound bout.
The next three contests feature Air Force senior boxers from the 175-pound weight class. Seniors Ryan Price will battle Vic Colon, while James Dunn faces off with Mike Steadman. Mike Tolzien rounds out the trio with a showdown against Carl Governalli.
Moving up to the 180-pound weight class, senior Bruce Jamison will face Dmitry Shvets. Fellow senior John Quinn, the only Air Force boxer to compete in last year's meeting, will face Jeremiah Olver in a 195-pound bout to close out the evening.
