Falcons Split Pair of Matches in Nebraska

The Air Force men's tennis team spilt a pair of matches during its first weekend of the 2008 spring season. On Saturday, The Falcons lost to the University of Nebraska, 7-0, then rebounded to defeat Creighton, 4-3, on Sunday.
In the first match, sophomores Austin Francis and James Tomlin posted AFA's lone victory, winning the No. 2 doubles match, 8-6, over Nebraska's Mark Tate and Renato Melo. The Huskers won all six singles matches in straight sets.
On Sunday, the Falcons pulled out two of the three doubles matches, including a 9-7 victory at the No. 3 spot by sophomore Mike Gies and freshman Johnny Buckingham. Sophomore Brett Rodgers and freshman Taylor Soster won a t No. 1, 8-5, giving the Falcons an early 1-0 lead after the doubles matches.
Rodgers, Buckingham and senior Greg Ferry each posted singles victories to give Air Force the team win. Rodgers led off by defeating Jose Guerra, 6-2, 6-1, at the No. 1 spot, while Buckingham won a tough, 7-6, 6-4 decision over Brian Ward at No. 5. Ferry finished it off with a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 6 over Michael Elson.
The Falcons are back in action next Friday night, Jan. 25, when they play at the University of Denver at 7 p.m.
