Falcons Fall to Army and Nebraska In Rifle

USAF Academy, Colo. - In a match against the U.S. Military Academy and the Nebraska Huskers, Oct. 11-12, the Air Force rifle team lost to both opponents. On Oct. 11, the Falcons scored 2252 to Army's 2300 points in smallbore. In air rifle the Falcons only scored 2296 points to Army's 2313, the Falcons lost to Army 4548-4613. On Oct. 12, against the Huskers, the Falcons defeated Nebraska by one point (2310-2309) in air rifle, but lost the smallbore match 2301-2274. The Falcons lost 4584-4610.
The Falcons high scorers in the competition versus Army were sophomore Tom Chandler who scored a 577 in smallbore and 580 in air rifle for an aggregate score of 1157. Freshman Mike Seery scored 552 in smallbore and 572 in air rifle (1124), while senior Brian Jarrell topped off with a 550 in smallbore and 570 in air rifle (1120). Also firing were sophomore Nick Kreiger with a 573 in smallbore and freshman Kyle Phillips with a 574 in air rifle. The Falcons' team total was 4548 versus Army (4613).
Against Nebraska, the Falcons high scores came from Chandler with a 576 smallbore and a 586 in air rifle for an aggregate score of 1162. Kreiger followed with a 574 smallbore and 569 air rifle score (1143). Scoring a total of 1130 points, Phillips shot a 559 in smallbore and a 571 in air rifle. Seery fired an air rifle score of 584, while Jarrell scored 565 in smallbore. The Falcons' team total was 4584 versus Nebraska (4610).
The rifle team is off until Oct. 25, when the team travels to El Paso, Texas, for a match against UTEP and Ole Miss. The Air Force rifle team will be home, Nov. 1, when it hosts the All Service Academies meet.
