Air Force Travels to All-Academy Championships

The Air Force men's gymnastics team travels to the All-Academy Championships on Sunday, Feb. 17. The Falcons will travel to Soka University in Aliso Viejo, Calif., for the annual competition between Air Force, Army and Navy.
Meet Notes 04: at All-Academy Championships 
YOU LOOK FAMILIAR
Air Force and Army met two weeks ago in a dual meet, which the Falcons won by a narrow 331.350-331.300. Army and Navy met last weekend in a "Star" competition that Navy dominated with a 340.750-322.600 victory.
FALCONS SNAP ARMY'S STREAK
Air Force claimed its first "varsity" victory of the season on Feb. 1, as it narrowly edged service academy rival Army in a dual meet at West Point. The Falcons tallied 331.350 points to defeat the Black Knights and their total of 331.300. The win was the Falcons' first over Army since the 1999-2000 season and totals over 15 meets.
ANOTHER MEET, ANOTHER WIN
The Falcons improved its season-best score by over six points as it defeated Springfield College on Feb. 3. Air Force tallied a winning score of 337.500 to conclude the weekend with its second victory in as many meets. The mark, capping a 15-point improvement over the weekend, was benefited by season-high marks in five of the six individual events.
STINE EARNS WEEKLY HONORS
After collecting nine individual and two all-around titles over the weekend, senior Greg Stine was named Gymnast of the Week, the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation and the College Gymnastics Association (USAG Division). In addition, he set or matched six of seven Academy records.
"RANK" YOU VERY MUCH
Greg Stine is currently ranked third in the country on the still rings with a 15.025 average. As a team, the Falcons are ranked 10th, with a combined average of 57.600. Stine is ranked 13th in the all-around (84.500), while junior Jacob Schonig is ranked 18th on the still rings (14.587).
IT'S THE "STINE" WAY
Greg Stine claimed five first-place finishes in the Falcons' victory over Army on Feb. 1. He scored a record 15.000 to win the floor and shattered the Academy record on the still rings with a winning score of 15.450. He also equaled the program standard of 15.400 to win the vault, while taking first on the parallel bars with another record performance of 14.750 and increasing his own all-around standard to win the event with a score of 87.150. Two days later, Stine won the all-around, as well as five of six individual events, as the Falcons defeated Springfield. Stine upped the record on the still rings with a winning score of 15.600, while increasing the high bar standard by nearly a point to take first on the high bar (14.650).
MAKING A MARK
With three runner-up finishes and several career-best scores, Daniel Klimkowski also had a strong meet at Springfield on Feb. 3. He finished second on the pommel horse (13.450), parallel bars (14.050) and all-around (83.400). In addition, Klimkowski tallied a career-best 13.650 to tie for third on the high bar, while garnering a 14.100 to place fifth on the floor exercise.
GET OUT THE BROOMS
Against Springfield, Air Force earned a first-, second- and third-place sweep on the vault. Behind Greg Stine's winning score of (15.350), classmate Brian Boardman (15.100) and junior Josiah Loeser (14.550) posted career-best scores to finish second and third, respectively.
ALL TOGETHER NOW
In addition to the vault, Greg Stine and Josiah Loeser were a part of strong Air Force showings on two other events. Stine and Daniel Klimkowski placed first and second on the parallel bars, while Loeser (13.800) and Brian Boardman (13.35) added fourth- and fifth-place scores. In addition, Stine and Loeser (14.550) finished first and fourth on the still rings, while junior Jacob Schonig finished second after upping his career-best score to 15.500.
SWEEPING UP THE COMPETITION
The Falcons swept the top three spots of the still rings at Army on Feb. 1. Greg Stine won the event with a score of 15.450, while junior Jacob Schonig tallied a mark of 14.600 to finish second and classmate Josiah Loeser matched his personal-best mark at 13.750 to take third.
WHAT'S AHEAD FOR THE FALCONS
The Falcons will travel to Oakland, Calif., for the annual Pacific Coast Classic on Saturday, Feb. 23. Air Force will take on Arizona State, Washington and the New Zealand/Harbour Gymnastics Centre, as well as individuals from Stanford and Cal. Top qualifiers from Friday's Level 10 competition will also take part in the meet.
