CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- Air Force senior pommel horse specialist Jack Matlock closed out the 2026 gymnastics season with a ninth-place finish on his signature event at the NCAA Men's Gymnastics Championships this evening (April 18) in Champaign, Ill. – marking the fourth-straight year that Air Force has earned a top-10 finish on that event at the national championships meet.
Matlock, competing in the fifth rotation, garnered a score of 13.633 from the six-judge panel. While his overall score tied for the eighth-highest pommel horse score of the night, the tie was broken by the execution score, which placed him ninth by just 0.200 points (8.633-8.433). His placement in the full, 36-gymanst field accounted for the best placement of any service academy gymnast in the six individual event finals.
