RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil -- Former Air Force standout and current assistant coach 2Lt Patrick Hoopes captured gold medal honors on the pommel horse at the Pan American Championships this morning (June 21) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Hoopes scored a 14.566 to claim Gold on his signature event – and account for one of two podium finishes for the Team USA men during today's apparatus finals.
Earlier in the week, on June 17, Hoopes scored a 14.600 to lead the entire 66-man qualifying field on the pommel horse by three tenths of a point. That score helped Team USA to a third-place finish at the Pan Am Games and a spot in the upcoming World Gymnastics Championships.
