Falcons Fall to North Dakota State in WWC Action

Fargo, N.D. - In one of its closest matches of the season, the Air Force wrestling team dropped a 20-17 contest to conference foe North Dakota State Friday evening at Bison Sports Arena. The Falcons fall to 7-9 overall, 1-2 in the WWC, while the Bison improve to 10-8, 4-1 in the conference.
North Dakota State got out to an early 10-0 lead with a major decision and a fall in the first two bouts of the evening. Senior Jake Kriegbaum (Abilene, Kan.) then registered the first win of the match for the Falcons, registering a 4-2 decision over Gabriel Mooney at 141 pounds. The Bison picked up another decision at 149 pounds to take a 13-3 lead in the match, but the Falcons climbed on top after winning the next three bouts.
Senior Tony Dorward (Seattle, Wash.) grabbed a 4-3 overtime decision over Adam Aho at 157 pounds, while junior Stephen Crozier (Monona, Iowa) grabbed his team-leading 24th win of the season with a 17-6 major decision over Vince Salminen at 165 pounds. The Falcons then grabbed their first lead of the match following the 174-pound bout, when sophomore Tyler French (Malta, Mont.) secured a 19-8 major decision over Shannon Fettig.
The 184-pound bout featured a close contest, as NDSU's Kenny Moenkedick scored all six of his points in the final period en route to a 6-5 victory, while the Bison also won the 197 pound match in a major decision to take a 20-14 lead into the final bout.
Senior Anthony Stegeman (Cincinnati, Ohio) took a 7-4 decision over Tyler Hemmesch in the heavyweight match, but the Falcons were unable to get the win, dropping a close 20-17 contest to the Bison
The Falcons have another WWC contest tomorrow evening, as they face off against South Dakota State in a match slated to begin at 7:00 p.m. (CT).
