Falcons Finish Competition at AF Diving Invitational

USAFA, Colo. - With three events on the final day, the Air Force men's and women's diving teams concluded competition Saturday at the Air Force Diving Invitational, being held in the Cadet Natatorium. The day started with the men's 1-meter dive, followed by the women's 3-meter dive, while the invitational concluded with the men's and women's platform.

In the men's 1-meter dive, Denver's Aaron Feight won his second event of the invitational with a core of 316.90. Meanwhile, sophomores Kyle Van Valkenburg (Tucson, Ariz.) and David Arlington (Eagle River, Alaska) led the way for the Falcons, finishing fifth and eighth, respectively. Junior Randy Rogers (Fort Worth, Texas) added a top 10 finish for Air Force, coming in 10th, while Nathan Glandon (Sr., Abilene, Texas) came in 13th, followed by Nathaniel Gilbert (Fr., River Falls, Wis.) in 15th place.

The Falcons were led by senior Danielle Dowds (Huntington Beach, Calif.) in the women's 3-meter dive, as she placed seventh with a mark of 231.40. Teammate Ashleigh Peck (Jr., Beaver Falls, Pa.) finished right behind in eighth place with a score of 231.15, while sophomore Chelsea Tompkins (Grand Junction, Colo.) placed 15th. Wyoming's Stephanie Ortiz turned in the top finish in the event.

In the final event of the day, the combined platform, Van Valkenburg took first place overall in the field of 32, scoring a 268.00, more than 20 points ahead of the second-place finisher, Tyler Miller of Wyoming. Arlington placed fifth, followed by Glandon in sixth place. Meanwhile, Rogers placed ninth amongst the men (13th overall), and Gilbert finished 11th in the men's competition (24th overall).

Dowds led the Air Force women in the platform dive, placing third amongst the women (ninth overall) with a mark of 196.40, less than two points behind the top female finisher. Tompkins came in sixth in the women's competition (16th overall), while Peck was 15th amongst the women (26th overall).

The men's and women's swimming and diving teams return to action next weekend, Feb. 9, with their final dual meet of the season, when they travel to Laramie, Wyo., to face Wyoming.
