AFA's Peter French earned NCAA All-American honors

U.S. Air Force Academy, Colo. - Air Force Academy fencer Peter French earned NCAA All-American honors at the NCAA Fencing Championship in Columbus, Ohio. He finished in sixth-place in men's epee. French, a sophomore from Austin, Texas, was in fifth place following Saturday's rounds 1-4. He finished the tournament with 14 victories. On Sunday, AFA freshman Dan Trapani, from Houston, finished in 14th place in epee following the final rounds of the competition, moving up one place following Saturday's rounds 1-4.
"I am happy for Peter's placement in the NCAAs," said head coach Abdel Salem. "He has been one of our top fencers this year, adding All-American honors to his already 2008 West Regional and Junior Olympic titles." "Dan fought hard to move up in the epee standings and finished the tournament with 11 victories."
Collectively, the two-man Air Force team attributed for 25 points to finish in 21st place in the team standings. Ohio State won its 57th national title. Wayne State's Slava Zingerman was the men's epee national champion.
