The Stetson women's tennis team defeated Air Force, 5-2, Monday at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center. The Hatters swept the three doubles matches and won at the top four singles positions to seal the victory. Stetson improved to 8-8 while the Falcons fell to 5-13.
Stetson's Valentina Galbarini and Unnati Purushotham beat junior Meghan Kiser and freshman Sarah Cassman, 8-3, at No. 1 doubles while Breanna Atkinson teamed up with Katherine Nowicki to win by the same score at No.2 doubles over senior Erika Shortridge and freshman Samantha Sarkis. Samantha Lange and Katherine St. Clair edged senior Lauren Wilson and sophomore Erlyn Rudico in a tiebreaker at No. 3 doubles.
Galbarini won the No. 1 singles match 6-2, 6-4 over junior Christine Abayan and Atkinson also won in straight sets, dispatching Wilson 6-0, 6-4 at the No. 2 position. Purushotham won the No. 3 singles match in three sets, 6-1, 4-6, 6-1 over Sarkis, while Megan Jones downed freshman Katrina Eromin, 2-6, 7-6, 7-5, at No. 4.
Falcon freshmen won at Nos. 5 and 6, with Christen Monreal defeating Nowicki, 6-2, 2-6, 6-1, at No. 5 and Cassman beating Lange, 7-5, 6-3, at No. 6.
The Falcons travel to Fort Worth, Texas, to take on MWC opponent New Mexico on Friday, March 28 beginning at 2 p.m.
