Fencers conclude Nick Toth Open

USAF Academy, Colo. - The Academy's fencers closed out Day 2 of the Nick Toth Open taking the top two positions in the senior mixed foil and a third-place finish in the senior women's foil events. Sophomore Nick Stockdale was the mixed foil champion and freshman Phil Choy was the second-place finisher. In the senior women's foil event, Ainsley Allen tied in third place.
Stockdale advanced to the championship round after winning the match, 15-9, against Rafael Guevara from the Northern Colorado Fencing Club. In the finals, it was two Air Force fencers, Stockdale versus Choy who battled it out for first place. Stockdale demonstrated a lot of confidence throughout the match, winning it 15-7.
"I tried to do my best for the team," said Stockdale. "Phil is a really good fencer and I respect him."
Allen tied for third place after losing to a fencer from South Denver Fencing Academy, 4-15, in women's foil.
The rest of foil team had a good day, with sophomore Daniel Fang finishing in seventh place in mixed foil. Sophomores Curtis Christensen finished ninth and Ian Hocking finished in 10th place. Sophomore William Hock finished 15th. Seniors Julie Luce and Ainsley Allen finished 28th and 34th, respectively, the mixed foil. Luce also finished seventh in the women's foil event.
"It was a good day and a good tournament overall," commented assistant coach Anthony Pryor. "We still have some areas to work on, but it was a good start to the season."
