Air Force to Host Navy in Annual Showdown

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - After weeks of intense preparation, the Air Force boxing team officially kicks off the 2008-09 season on Friday, Oct. 2, when it hosts service academy rival Navy in the annual showdown. The Falcons and Midshipmen will take to the ring of the Cadet Gym Upper Boxing Room for 11 bouts, ranging from the 115-pound weight class to the heavyweight division.
All but two of the 11 bouts will be contested in weight classes above 150 pounds.
Air Force newcomer Nicholas Cataldo makes his collegiate debut against Navy's Oludare Adeniji in a 175-pound bout. Sophomore Michael Dunn will face Casey Sheldon in a 151-pound bout. Senior Rudy Bowen will step into the ring for a 160-pound bout with Chris Bertucci.
Junior Cory Tintzman will face Marcus Johnson in the heavyweight division, while senior captain Boyce Loomis matches up with Mike Stedman in a 189-pound bout. Sophomore Joseph Silvio will compete in a 160-pound bout with Chris O'Brien, while senior Elon Brumfield will face Josh Fernandez in a 184-pound bout.
Only two members of the current Air Force card have face Navy in the annual dual-match. Seniors Andrew Catoire and Dean Chuva competed in the 2006 match at the Academy. Catoire will competed in a 191-pound bout against Rick Wiegert, while Chuva, the defending national champion at 112 pounds, moved up to the 135-pound weight class to take on Paul Hollwedel.
Junior Bailey Ball takes to the ring to face Antone Aku in a 150-pound bout, while sophomore Matt DeMars closes out the night in the lightest weight class. DeMars will face Logan Hershman in a 115-pound contest.
Action is slated to begin at 4:30 p.m., in the Upper Boxing Room of the Cadet Gym. Admission is free.
