Rifle team falls to Nebraska and West Virginia

In the first rifle two matches of the 2009-10 seasons, the Air Force Academy rifle team lost to the University of Nebraska on Friday, Oct. 9, and West Virginia University, Saturday, Oct. 10, in Lincoln, Neb. The Huskers won the match, 4629-4614, and the Mountaineers won, 4655-4587.
The Falcons' top shooter in the match against Nebraska was Tom Chandler. Chandler shot a 581 in the smallbore and a 590 in air rifle for an aggregate 1171 score. The team scored 2304 points in smallbore and 2310 in air rifle. On Saturday, Chandler was the Falcons' top shooter against West Virginia, scoring 582 in smallbore and 581 in air rifle for an aggregate 1163.
Against Nebraska, in smallbore, Mike Seery scored 576. Kyle Phillips shot a 568 and Nick Krieger scored 579 in the smallbore. In air rifle, Kurt Hakola had a 563 and Robert Vasquez shot a 582, while Pat Everson finished the day with a 575.
Against West Virginia, Krieger scored a 578, Phillips had a 572, Seery a 569, and with Chandler's 582, the smallbore team finished with 2301 points. In air rifle, Vasquez finished with 576 points, Hakola had 567 and Everson finished with 562. Chandler rounded out the air rifle team score with 581 points.
The Air Force Academy will host two matches this week against Nevada-Reno and UTEP on Saturday, Oct. 17 at 8 a.m., at the USAFA Rifle Range.
