Air Force Concludes "B" Season at RMAC Open

DENVER, Colo. - While the Air Force cross country varsity team members prepare for the upcoming conference championship meet, the rest of the Falcons' runners concluded the season at the RMAC Open in Denver, Colo., on Saturday, Oct. 24. Air Force sent 19 members to Washington Park in downtown Denver to compete in an "open" event hosted by Metro State.
Sophomore Elyse Willard paced the women's team, picking up a ninth-place time of 24:18 on the 6K course. She was one of six Falcons to place within the top half of the 50-runner race. In her first 6K race, freshman Morgan Mosby clocked a time of 24:34 to place 12th. Her time is the eighth-fastest on the squad this season.
Sophomore Katie Carroll crossed the finish line in 25:24 to place 20th, while classmate Phaelen French and freshman Dominique Amor placed 21st and 22nd, respectively, with matching times of 25:32. Junior Whitney Beck finished in 25:54 to place 25th, while sophomore Alexa Ramsier (26:01) and freshman Kara Hovseth (26:10) placed 26th and 27th, respectively. Freshman Kathleen Vardell rounded out the women's field with a 29th-place time of 26:41.
On the men's side, freshman Andrew Quallio paced the Falcons. Quallio clocked an 8K time of 28:28 to place 44th in the 119-competitor event. Five of the Falcons' 10 runners finished within the top half of the field. Freshmen Donald Jackson (47th, 28:40) and Zak Boston (49th, 28:44) finished within the top 50, while senior Conor Murphy (29:04) and sophomore Matt Cain (29:05) finished 55th and 56th, respectively.
Five freshmen rounded out the Falcons' field at the RMAC Open. Cory Johnson clocked a time of 29:32 to place 69th, while Dylan Hallums was just seconds behind (29:39) to place 70th. Thomas Heikkinen used a time of 29:55 to place 77th, while Gage Owens (30:06) and Chris Espinosa (30:26) earned respective finishes of 80th and 83rd.
Air Force opens the championship season on Saturday, Oct. 31, when its varsity members travel to Orem, Utah, for the 2009 Mountain West Conference Cross Country Championships. Action begins at 10 a.m., with the men's championship race. The women's race is scheduled to start at 11 a.m.
