Air Force Rifle Team Opens Season

The Air Force Academy rifle team will start the season competing at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, on Oct. 9-10 at the NU Rifle Range. On Friday, Air Force will shoot a match against the Huskers and on Saturday, they will have a match against West Virginia.
This season's returning shooters are Tom Chandler, a 2009 smallbore rifle All-American, second team, whose 2009 season averages were 574.15 in smallbore and a 584 in air rifle. Mike Seery also returns with back to back highs of 584 in air rifle. Last year, Nick Krieger posted two season-high scores, a 576 and 577 in smallbore versus TCU. Kyle Phillips had individual high scores in 2009, both in air rifle (584) and smallbore (570). Pat Everson's high scores were a 582 in air rifle and 562 in smallbore. They will be joined by newcomers Kurt Hakola, Matt Kluckman, Ben York. Also returning is, Robert Vasquez.
Head coach Launi Meili will be joined by Michael Anti as the team's assistant coach. Anti has over 30 years of experience in air rifle, three-position rifle and prone rifle, the veteran of the sport brings a wealth of experience in both his military career and as a marksman to the Academy's rifle team program.
The rifle team will host Nevada-Reno on Oct. 17 at 8 a.m.
