Montana State Downs Air Force, 4-2

The Air Force men's tennis team captured the doubles point Friday against Montana State, but the Bobcats rallied to win four singles matches and post a 4-2 win over the Falcons at the Academy. Air Force fell to 0-7 while it was the first match of the season for the Bobcats.

The Falcons jumped out to a 1-0 lead with some excellent doubles play from their top two teams. Junior Austin Francis and freshman Cody Hall defeated Jakub Dybala and Pawel Turzanski, 8-3, at the No. 1 position, while junior Brett Rodgers and sophomore Taylor Soster dominated at the No. 2 spot, downing Fletcher Keyes and David Kowas, 8-2.

Freshman Will Brown played his first collegiate match for Air Force at No. 3 doubles, but he and junior James Tomlin fell to Alberto Fuentes and Corey Smith, 8-6.

Hall gave the Falcons a 2-0 lead by defeating Turzanski, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 2 singles, but Montana State won the next four matches to seal the win. Dybala started it with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Soster at No. 4, followed by a three-set victory for Keyes, 6-2, 3-6, 6-2, over Rodgers at No. 4. Smith also won in three sets for MSU, winning the No. 1 match over Francis, 6-2, 1-6, 6-3 and Esteban Ferrero clinched the match for the Bobcats with a 6-0, 6-2 win over sophomore Johnny Buckingham at No. 6. The No. 5 match between Fuentes and Tomlin was pulled of the court after the first set.

Air Force returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 14 against Idaho State at the Academy, beginning at 12 p.m.
