Falcons Down Portland State, 6-1

The Air Force women's tennis team improved to 9-6 this season with an impressive 6-1 victory over Portland State Sunday at the Academy. The Falcons swept the three doubles matches, then captured five of the six singles matches.
Junior Erlyn Rudico and sophomore Katrina Eromin won the No. 1 doubles match, 8-6, over Molly Knox and Victoria Bravo, while sophomore Christen Monreal and Allie Chermel won their 10th straight match, defeating Alyssa Ferry and Anya Dalkin, 8-3, at No. 2. Senior Christine Abayan and sophomore Sarah Cassman, sealed the deal with an 8-1 triumph over Caitlin Stocking and Kylea Gleason.
In singles play, Knox downed Abayan in three sets, 1-6, 7-5, 6-2, at the No. 1 spot, but it was the only win for the Vikings. Monreal captured her eighth straight singles victory with a 6-1, 6-1 decision over Ferry, while Chermel rallied to beat Dalkin, 4-6, 7-6(5), 6-4 at No. 3.
Cassman (No. 4), Eromin (No. 5) and freshman Shannon Young (No. 6) each won her singles match in straight sets.
The Falcons host Xavier (12 p.m.) and UNC-Greensboro (5 p.m.) on Monday, March 2 to wrap up their 12-match homestand. Air Force is 7-3 during the homestand.
