Falcons Fall 6-1 to UNM in League Opener

The Air Force men's tennis team opened Mountain West Conference play on Friday with a 6-1 loss to New Mexico at the Academy. With the victory, UNM improved to 14-2 overall and 1-0 in MWC play, while the Falcons fell to 7-12 and 0-1.
The Lobos jumped out to an early 1-0 lead by sweeping the three doubles matches. Johnny Parkes and Miles Bugby won at the top spot, defeating Austin Francis and Cody Hall, 8-4. Graeme Kassautzki and Joe Wood won the No. 2 match, 8-3, over Taylor Soster and James Tomlin, who filled in for the injured Brett Rodgers, while Ben Dunbar and Elliot Chang downed Johnny Buckingham and Will Brown, 8-2, at the No. 3 spot.
In singles play, Hall posted the lone win for Air Force rallying from a set down to beat Kassautzki, 3-6, 7-5, 7-6(7) in a match that lasted 2 hours and 50 minutes. Kassautzki is ranked No. 123 in the country. The Lobos won four of the singles matches in straight sets, with Soster winning the first set against Bugby at No. 3 before losing, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.
The Falcons will host UNLV on Saturday at 10 a.m. Their match against San Diego State on Sunday has been cancelled since the Aztecs were unable to fly to Colorado due to the recent snowstorm.
