PROVO, Utah - Blake Torgerson of BYU tossed a two-hit shutout to blank Air Force, 7-0, in Mountain West Conference baseball action Friday night at Miller Field. The loss dropped the Falcons to 11-21, 2-6 and improved the Cougars to 19-13, 6-5.
Torgerson (4-2) held the Falcons to a pair of singles, walking one and striking out two. The Cougars scored a run in the first, two in the third and four in the eighth.
BYU had 14 hits in the game, with Kent Walton homering. Michael Bowen added three hits and two RBIs.
Falcon starter Alex Truesdale (2-5) pitched seven-plus innings, allowing five runs while tying a season-high with seven strikeouts. It was Truesdale's first outing in over two weeks, as he sat out the last two weekends nursing an abdominal muscle strain. Brad Pingel and Michael Ruvolo also pitched in relief.
K. J. Randhawa and Jon McMahon had Air Force's two hits.
Weather permitting, the Falcons return to action Saturday, April 11, for the series finale with BYU. First pitch is at 1 p.m.
