Air Force Drops Thursday Game To New Mexico

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force dropped a 25-7 Mountain West Conference baseball game to New Mexico Thursday afternoon at Falcon Field. The loss dropped the Falcons to 14-35, 3-16 while the Lobos improved to 35-18, 13-8.
New Mexico pounded out 28 hits on the day and coasted to the win after opening the game by scoring 11 runs in the first inning. Six Lobos notched three-or-more hits. Leadoff hitter Mike Brownstein went 6-for-7 with five runs scored. Rafael Neda went 5-for-7 with four runs and four RBIs. Justin Howard homered twice and Ryan Honeycutt also homered for UNM.
Air Force had 11 hits on the day. Freshman Jack Lupo went 3-for-5 with a homer and two RBIs. Sophomore Tytus Moss also fared well at the plate, going 3-for-5 with a homer and two RBIs as well. Freshman Blair Roberts added two hits and two runs and Nathan Carter tripled and drew a pair of walks.
Lobo starter John Hesketh (6-3) picked up the win, allowing five runs in five innings. Bobby Moore and Brandon Hewett also pitched in relief for New Mexico.
Falcon starter senior Casey Allen (1-4) took the loss in his final career start. Mike Kazakoff pitched 3.2 innings in relief and Matt Barattino followed up with 4.1 innings. Kazakoff struck out three and Barattino whiffed four.
Air Force and New Mexico resume the series, with game two tomorrow, May 15. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m. MST.
