PALM BEACH, Fla. - Air Force specialist Erik Soderberg was named one of three Lou Groza Collegiate Place Kicker Award "Star of the Week" honorees for his performance in the San Diego State game on Sept. 26. College football's top kicking award, the Lou Groza Award, sponsored by the Palm Beach County Sports Commission, recognizes three of the top kickers each week from FBS division (Div. I) teams as the "Stars of the Week".
Soderberg joined Houston's Jordan Mannisto and Missouri's Grant Ressel for the week four honorees.
Soderberg tied an Air Force Academy school record with four field goals, lifting the Falcons to a 26-14 win over San Diego State in Colorado Springs on Saturday. Soderberg becomes the eighth kicker at Air Force to make four field goals in a game. He connected from 20, 21, 41 and 48 yards. His 48-yarder in the second quarter was a career best. The win improved the Falcon's record to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in Mountain West Conference play.
It was Soderberg's second honor on the week as he was also named Kickoff Specialist Performer of the Week by College Football Performance Awards.
The Lou Groza Award will be presented as part of the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show in Orlando, Florida on Thursday December 10th. The three finalists will be feted at the 18th Annual Lou Groza Awards Banquet on Tuesday December 8th at the Kravis Center in West Palm Beach, Florida.
