The Air Force men's tennis team gave new head coach Dan Oosterhous his first career victory Saturday afternoon with a 7-0 triumph over Northern Colorado in Greeley. The Falcons won two of the three doubles matches then swept the six singles matches in improving to 1-1 this spring.
Senior Brett Rodgers and junior Taylor Soster won the No. 1 doubles match, 8-3, over Calix Van Lier and Travis Day, while senior Austin Francis and freshman Lance Wilhelm defeated Robbie Edwards and Ryan Lane, 8-6, at the No. 2 spot.
In singles, the top two matches went three sets, while Air Force won the other four in straight sets. Wilhelm won his second consecutive match at No. 1 singles, defeating Van Lier, 7-5, 5-7, 6-3, while Francis rallied from a set down to beat Lane at No. 2, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2.
"This was a quality win for our team today," said Oosterhous. "We won two 3-setters and narrowly won the doubles point over an improved UNC team from last year. I was very pleased with our determination and fight today and we were all excited to win our first dual match of the year."
The Falcons are idle until hosting Northern Arizona on Saturday, Feb. 13, beginning at 10 a.m.
