Falcons Wrap Up Action at Purple & Red Invitational

LAYTON, Utah -
Led by freshman Philip Colwell (The Woodlands, Texas), the Air Force golf team finished tied for 10th place at the Purple & Red Invitational, co-hosted by Weber State and Utah at the par-72, 7,147-yard Valley View Golf Course. The Falcons turned in a three-round score of 885 (+21) for the tournament.
Colwell posted his lowest tournament score of the season, finishing with an even-par 216 to tie for 15th in the individual standings. Junior Caleb Leestma (Seabrook, Texas) was next for Air Force, tying for 34th place with a score of 221 (+5).
Sophomore Wes Denny (Cincinnati, Ohio) placed in a tie for 41st with a score of 223 (+7), followed by Andrew Hoops (So., Highland, Calif.), who finished two strokes behind to tie for 53rd place. Rounding out Air Force's team was freshman Kyle Westmoreland (Katy, Texas), who finished tied for 81st place with a score of 233. In addition, two Air Force golfers competed as individuals in this week's tournament.
Junior Robert Belz (San Antonio, Texas) finished tied for 41st place with a score of 223, while classmate Travis Deckert (Wichita, Kan.) tied for 53rd place at 225.
Capturing the team title was Sacramento State, which posted a score of 857 (-7) to edge out Washington State by a single stroke. Sacramento State was led by Jake Johnson who won medalist honors with a 12-under-par 204.
The Falcons wrap up the 2010 fall season Oct. 25-26 when they travel to Las Cruces, N.M., for the annual Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate, hosted by New Mexico State.
