Air Force Splits a Pair of Conference Games

The Air Force water polo team split a pair of WWPA contests on Saturday, falling to No. 10 Loyola Marymount, 9-3, while defeating Redlands, 10-8. The Falcons played at LMU Saturday morning before facing Redlands in the Concordia Invitational, being held at Golden West College.
In its first game of the day, Air Force (6-11, 4-7 WWPA) fell behind 3-0 at the end of the first period against Loyola Marymount and trailed 5-0 before junior Taque Patino (Rockford, Mich.) put the Falcons on the board with 1:14 to play in the opening half. The Lions added another goal in the final minute of the period to take a 6-1 advantage at the intermission.
LMU tallied the lone score of the third quarter, while Air Force senior Bobby Geiger (Buellton, Calif.) opening the scoring in the final period with his first goal of the game. However, the Falcons would get no closer the rest of the way, as the Lions recorded the next two scores of the game to take a 9-2 advantage with just over three and a half minutes to play. Matt Versage (Sr., Merced, Calif.) scored a man-up goal for Air Force in the final minute of the contest to cut the final margin to six goals.
Meanwhile, the Falcons opened up competition at the Concordia Invitational with a contest versus WWPA rival Redlands. Air Force scored the lone goal of the opening period, before tallying four second-quarter goals to take a 5-1 advantage at the half. Despite being outscored by the Bulldogs in the second half, the Falcons were able to hold on to the 10-8 victory for their fourth conference win of the year.
Geiger was the leading scorer for Air Force with five goals, while Garrett Womack (So., Redlands, Calif.) added two goals. Also scoring for the Falcons in the game were Kurt Lemmen (Sr., Orlando, Fla.), Versage and Kurt Wallin (Sr., Temecula, Calif.). Meanwhile, sophomore goalkeeper Mike Fish (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) registered 11 stops.
The Falcons conclude action at the Concordia Invitational tomorrow morning, when they face Fresno Pacific at 11:40 (PT).
