Junior Kelly Bieber scored the game's only goal and the Air Force women's soccer team posted its first regular season Mountain West Conference victory since 2003 with a 1-0 triumph over TCU Sunday at Cadet Soccer Stadium. The Falcons, who snapped a five-game losing streak, improved to 8-9-1 overall and 1-5 in the MWC, while the Horned Frogs fell to 7-10-1 and 1-5 in league play.
Air Force also snapped a 41-game regular-season winless streak against MWC opponents, dating back to a 2-0 victory over New Mexico on Oct. 31, 2003. In addition, the Falcons had lost 22 straight conference games since a scoreless tie with TCU on Oct. 22, 2006.
IN the 25th minute, Bieber took a pass from Sophia Lockerby and made a run down the left side past a TCU defender all the way to the goal line. As TCU goalie Kelsey Walters came down the line to make a play, Bieber shot the ball past her and it snuck inside the far post for her first goal of the season.
Falcon freshman goalie Kelly Stambaugh recorded three saves in posting her fourth shutout of the season and the Falcon defense allowed 11 total shots and just three on goal to the Horned Frogs. Air Force, meanwhile, had 13 total shots but could put just one other shot on goal. Bieber had a team-high four shots, while Bridgett Murphy had three.
TCU's Jordan Calhoun attempted a game-high five shots and its best scoring chance came in the 13th minute, when Leigha Leonard made a run down the right side and took a shot from about 15 yards out that clanked off the post behind Stambaugh.
Air Force, which played its final home game Sunday, travels to Laramie, Wyo., on Saturday, Oct. 30 for its final regular season game of the season. The game is scheduled for 1 p.m.
