In its final tournament of the fall season, the Air Force golf team sits in eighth place at the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate, hosted by New Mexico State at the par-71, 6,999-yard NMSU Golf Course. After two rounds, the Falcons have posted a team score of 591 (+23).
On the first day of competition, freshman Philip Colwell (The Woodlands, Texas) is leading the Falcons, posting a two-round score of 144 (+2) to sit in a tie for 12th place, while sophomore Wes Denny (Cincinnati, Ohio) is next in the standings, tied for 20th place at 147.
Junior Caleb Leestma (Seabrook, Texas) and sophomore Andrew Hoops (Highland, Calif.), who both fired a two-round score of 150 on Monday, are currently tied for 35th in the individual standings, while freshman Kyle Westmoreland (Katy, Texas) rounds out the team in a tie for 74th place. In addition, senior Kyle Bailey (Austin, Texas), competing as an individual in this week's tournament, is in 82nd place heading into the final round on Tuesday.
Leading the way in the team standings after the first day of action is host New Mexico State, which sits at 574. Meanwhile, the Aggies' Timothy Madigan sits atop the individual leaderboard, firing a 6-under-par 136 on Monday.
The final round of the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate begins tomorrow with an 8:00 a.m. shotgun start.
