Justin Tyner Leads Falcons at Wisconsin adidas Invitational

MADISON, Wis. - Highlighted by a 16th-place finish from senior Justin Tyner, the Air Force men's cross country team placed 12th at the second-annual Wisconsin adidas Invitational in Madison, Wis., on Saturday, Oct. 2. Four of the five scoring runners for the Air Force men finished within the top 100 of the 212-runner field at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Course.

Tyner, who clocked the fourth fastest times in the Mountain West Conference this season at 23:58, finished 16th overall. Tyner ran at a 4:50 pace, clocking in at 9:02 at the 3000-meter mark and 15:07 at the 5000-meter checkpoint.

Sophomore Jim Walmsley improved his season-best time in the 8000-meter race, with a time of 24:32 to place 57th. Classmate Jonathan Rock placed 66th with a time of 24:37, while sophomores Jeremy Drenckhahn (76th, 24:42) and Matt Bell (111th, 25:10) rounded out the Falcons' scoring runners.

Three additional Falcons represented the men's team at the Wisconsin adidas Invitational. Senior Tyler Small clocked a time of 25:24 (128th), while sophomore Andrew Quallio and freshman Isaiah Bragg earned respective times of 24:40 (148th) and 25:46 (153rd), respectively.

As a team, Air Force placed 12th in the 21-team meet with 319 points. Indiana won the men's meet with 43 points, while Wisconsin (75 points) and Princeton (112 points) placed second and third, respectively.

On the women's side, senior Katherine Ward and sophomore Jen Bremser finished within the top half of the 202-runner event. Ward clocked a season-best 6000-meter time of 21:58 to place 93rd, while Bremser placed 96th in a time of 22:03.

Sophomore Morgan Mosby finished 108th with a time of 22:18, while freshman Carley Gross and sophomore Melissa Fuerst rounded out the Falcons' scoring runners with respective times of 22:36 (128th) and 22:38 (130th). Junior Katie Carroll also raced for the Falcons, placing 172nd with a time of 23:28.

Air Force accumulated 497 points to place 18th in the team standings. Syracuse won the meet with 89 points, while North Carolina (98 points) and Michigan State (109 points) rounded out the top three.

The Falcons will have a weekend off from competition before splitting up again for a pair of meets on Saturday, Oct. 16. Select members of the team will head to Terre Haute, Ind., for the prestigious Pre-Nationals Meet, while the rest of the team travels to Hays, Kan., for the annual Tiger Invitational.
