Air Force Falls at #11 BYU, 2-1

PROVO, Utah - The Air Force women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 Mountain West Conference match at #11 BYU Saturday night at South Field. The loss drops the Falcons to 7-6-1, 0-2 while the Cougars improved to 11-1-1, 2-0.
BYU scored goals in the 13th and 46th minutes to hold off a late charge by Air Force, who scored in the 84th minute to make things interesting.
The Cougars took an early lead as Lauren Anderson took passes from Carlee Payne and Jennie Marshall to score at the 13:06 mark. BYU made it 2-0 when Kassidy Shumway took passes from Payne and Marshall, again, to score at the 46:06 mark.
Krystin Shanklin got Air Force on the board with her second goal of the season at the 84:19 mark.
Shanklin's goal snapped a seven game scoreless streak in conference matches, dating back to the 2009 season. It was also the Falcons' first lost in nine games when scoring this year.
Freshman Kelly Stambaugh had three saves at goalkeeper for AFA.
Air Force returns to action Thursday, Oct. 14, at San Diego State.
