The Air Force women's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to the University of Nebraska Saturday morning in Lincoln, Neb. The Huskers improved to 7-0 this season, while the Falcons had their seven-match winning streak snapped and fell to 7-2.
The Huskers started the match by taking all three doubles matches to win the doubles point, highlighted by Madeleine Geibert and Stefanie Weinstein's 8-3 victory at No. 1 doubles over Air Force freshmen Hannah Dake and Melissa Cecil. The Huskers won 8-4 at the No. 2 spot and 8-5 at the No. 3 spot to complete the sweep of the doubles matches.
Geibert was the first on the board for the Huskers in singles play, easily defeating Cecil, 6-1, 6-1, at the No. 2 spot. NU's Wiveca Swarting finished her match shortly after, winning 6-0, 6-3 at No. 3 singles over Dake to make the score 3-0. Janine Weinreich then clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Sarah Cassman at the No. 6 spot.
Two of the singles matches went three sets, including the No. 1 match, where Mary Weatherholt downed Falcon junior Christen Monreal, 4-6, 6-3, (10-6), while Jennifer Holmberg won the No. 5 contest, 6-0, 3-6, 6-1 over Tahlia Smoke.
"We had trouble keeping any momentum on our side today," said Air Force head coach Kim Gidley. "On the bright side, Christen Monreal played a great match for us today."
The Falcons play a pair of matches on Sunday, Feb. 14, against Drake and Nebraska-Kearney.
