Air Force Places Sixth at WSU Snowman Getaway

Led by runner-up Tom Whitney (La Quinta, Calif.), the Air Force golf team finished in sixth place Tuesday at the WSU Snowman Getaway, hosted by Washington State at the par-72, 7,218-yard Cattail Course at the Whirlwind Golf Club. The Falcons shot 8 over par in the final round to post a three-round score of 904 (+40).
Whitney saved his best round of the tournament for last, shooting a 3-under-par 69 on Tuesday to finish tied with Idaho's Brad Tensen for second place with a score of 213 (-3). It marks Whitney's fourth top-three performance of the year, and the first of the spring season.
Meanwhile, Kyle Bailey (Jr., Austin, Texas) and Andrew Hoops (Fr., Highland, Calif.) were next for the Falcons, each tying for 33rd place at 230. Sophomore Caleb Leestma (Seabrook, Texas), who fired a 73 in the final round, ended in a tie for 49th place with a score of 234, while Mark Boyer (Hershey, Pa.) placed 70th at 246.
The host Cougars took the team title, finishing the tournament seven strokes ahead of second-place Missouri with a score of 871 (+7). Earning medalist honors was UMKC's Brett Iliff, who fired a 5-under-par 211 for the tournament.
The Falcons return to action March 5-6 at the Border Olympics in Laredo, Texas.
