Falcons Fall 5-2 to San Diego State

Freshman Christine Molina and junior Sarah Cassman each won her singles match Saturday, but it was not enough as the Air Force women's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to 75th-ranked San Diego State at the Aztec Tennis Center. The Falcons fell to 16-9 overall and 2-4 in Mountain West Conference play, while the Aztecs improved to 11-10 overall and 4-4 in league action.
The Aztecs jumped out to a 1-0 lead by sweeping the three doubles matches and did not lose more than three games in any of the matches. SDSU's No. 2 team of Julia Trunk and Julia Wais defeated Molina and sophomore Allie Chermel, 8-2, then Alicia Aguilar and Olivia Colman clinched the point with an 8-3 victory over senior Erlyn Rudico and freshman Melissa Cecil.
Molina won the No. 4 match, 7-6, 2-6, (10-8) over Sierra Ellison for to tie for the team lead with 27 overall singles wins this season, while Cassman won her 24th, defeating Colman, 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 at the No. 6 spot. Those were the last two matches off the court as the Aztecs had already won the other four to clinch the team match.
The only other singles match to go three sets was at the No. 2 position, where Wais defeated Air Force sophomore Tahlia Smoke, 6-4, 2-6, 6-0.
The Falcons play 36th-ranked UNLV on Sunday, April 18 at 10 a.m. (PT) in San Diego.
