TCU Downs Air Force, 6-1

The Air Force women's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to TCU Friday in Fort Worth, Texas. Freshman Melissa Cecil posted the lone victory for Air Force, winning the No. 6 singles match. Air Force fell to 14-6 overall and 1-1 in Mountain West Conference action, while the Horned Frogs improved to 3-12 and 1-0.
The Frogs jumped out to a 1-0 lead by sweeping the doubles competition. At the top doubles spot, the nation's 40th-ranked team of Kayla Duncan and Katariina Tuohimaa posted an 8-2 triumph over Christen Monreal and Hannah Dake. TCU also got doubles wins from Nina Munch-Soegaard and Maria Babanova, 8-2, over Tahlia Smoke and Allie Chermel at No. 2, and Idunn Hertzberg and Gaby Mastromarino, 8-1, over Christine Molina and Melissa Cecil at No. 3.
Cecil improved to 25-8 overall and 16-2 this spring with a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Mastromarino, but TCU won the other five matches, four of them in straight sets. The only three-setter came at the No. 5 spot, where Babnova rallied to beat Falcon junior Sarah Cassman, 2-6, 6-0, 6-0.
Air Force returns to action on Thursday, April 8 when it hosts BYU at the Academy. The match is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
