Rifle team members selected as Scholar-Athletes

U.S. Air Force Academy, Colo. -- Two Air Force Academy rifle team marksmen were selected as the Mountain West Conference Scholar-Athletes, as announced by the MWC office on June 30. Freshman Matt Kluckman (San Antonio, TX) led the Falcons with a 3.98 GPA in Computer Science, while sophomore Pat Everson (Eagle River, AK) averaged a 3.50 GPA in Electrical Engineering.
Everson finished the season with a .795 aggregate score for the year. His individual season-high scores were 577 in smallbore against Alaska Fairbanks in November 2009 and 586 in air rifle against TCU in the NCAA qualifier match in February 2010.
Kluckman averaged .560 during the season. His personal best was a 566 in air rifle in the Winter Air Gun competition in December 2009.
A total of 548 student-athletes, including 43 from the Air Force Academy, were honored with the Mountain West Conference Scholar-Athlete award. The MWC Scholar-Athlete Award is one of the highest academic honors bestowed by the Conference. This year's mark fell one shy of matching the league record of 549 honorees, set in 2008-09.
To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have completed at least two academic terms at the member institution, while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or better, and have participated in varsity competition in an NCAA-sponsored sport.
