THE COACHES
Air Force: Troy Calhoun (Air Force, 1989) is in his fourth season. He has led the Falcons to a 27-15 career record. Calhoun is 17-8 in MWC games, 10-7 in non-conference games, 16-4 in Falcon Stadium, 10-4 in the month of September and 3-0 vs. Wyoming.

LAST MEETING
Air Force defeated Wyoming, 10-0, in Falcon Stadium. After a scoreless first half, Erik Soderberg got the Falcons on the board with a 29-yard field goal to make it 3-0. Jared Tew added a 17-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter to give the Falcons a 10-0 lead. Tew finished the game with 105 yards rushing on 27 carries. Air Force had 269 total yards and a nine minute edge in time of possession.
The defense held Wyoming to just 174 total yards, including just 74 passing, and had six quarterback sacks. Reggie Rembert led the way with a career-best 10 tackles and a sack. Wale Lawal chipped in with a career-best eight tackles and sack while John Falgout added eight tackles.
LAST TIME AT WYOMING
Air Force defeated Wyoming, 23-3, in the 2008 Mountain West Conference season opener for both schools.
In a defensive battle that was even at 3-3 at halftime, Air Force finally broke the game open in the third quarter behind a 74-yard run from Kyle Halderman. Quarterback Shea Smith followed with a one-yard touchdown run to give Air Force a 13-3 lead with 2:41 left in the third quarter. Ryan Harrison kicked his third field goal of the game to give Air Force a 16-3 lead early in the fourth quarter and fullback Todd Newell capped the win with a one-yard touchdown run in the final three minutes of the game.
The Falcons allowed just 216 total yards, including just 76 passing. Safety Chris Thomas led the way with a season-high 13 tackles, a sack, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. Ken Lamendola chipped in 11 tackles. Jake Paulson added three tackles, a tackle for loss and a forced fumble.
AIR FORCE TIES TO WYOMING
Air Force assistant coach Matt Wallerstedt coached at Wyoming from 1997-2002. He was the defensive line coach from 1997-99 under head coach Dana Dimel and the defensive coordinator and inside linebackers coach from 2000-02 under head coach Vic Koenning. Wallerstedt was 2-4 against Air Force while at Wyoming.

COACHES TO HELP WITH FIGHT TO CURE MD
For the third year in a row, college football coaches nationwide will join together in support of the Coach to Cure MD program, which will be held during games of Saturday, September 25, 2010. The rapidly growing annual effort has raised more than half a million dollars to battle Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.
On September 25th, American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) members will wear a Coach to Cure MD logo patch on the sidelines and college football fans will be asked to donate to research projects supported by Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy, the largest nonprofit organization in the U.S. focused entirely on Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.
Air Force is in a stretch of four games featuring bowl teams from 2009: BYU, Oklahoma, Wyoming and Navy.
The four teams combined for a 36-17 (.697) overall record and a 16-9 (.667) conference mark in 2009.
Following the four games, Air Force plays two of it's next three on the road.
The 2010 schedule features six 2009 bowl teams overall, including TCU and Utah.
LAST WEEK
Air Force lost, 27-24, at No. 7/9 Oklahoma. DeMarco Murray rushed for 110 yards and two touchdowns, while quarterback Landry Jones hit 26 of 42 passes for 254 yards and a touchdown. Ryan Broyles added 10 catches for 116 yards. The Sooners, who led 10-3 at the half, took a 27-10 lead late in the third quarter when Jones hit Murray with a 17-yard scoring strike. The Falcons answered with touchdown runs by Jared Tew and Kyle Halderman in the fourth to cut the lead to 27-24. Oklahoma ran out the clock on its final possession to end the game. Air Force had 458 total yards, including 351 rushing which is the most allowed in the Bob Stoops era at Oklahoma. Tim Jefferson led the Falcons with 96 yards rushing and a touchdown and hit eight of 14 passes for 107 yards. Tew added 93 yards rushing and Asher Clark had 68. The defense, which held Oklahoma to 367 total yards, was led by Brady Amack's career-high 10 tackles. Jon Davis and Jordan Waiwaiole added nine each.

Air Force scored a touchdown on its first drive of the second half for the second time in three games.
Oklahoma's touchdown in the third quarter marked the first points Air Force has allowed in the second half this season.

Individual Notes
Tim Jefferson rushed for a season-high 96 yards. His 39-yard TD run in the third quarter is his longest of the season. Jefferson's 36-yard punt in the second quarter was the first punt of his career. He had a career-best punt of 42 yards later in the quarter. Both ended up inside the 20.
Patrick Hennessey's sack in the first quarter was the first of the season and third of his career.
Zach Kauth had two catches on AFA's first drive, the first multiple catch game of his career. Kauth finished the game with career highs of three catches for 45 yards.
Jordan Waiwaiole has had a tackle for loss in every game this season. Waiwaiole's nine tackles are a career high.
Brian Lindsay has had a tackle for loss in every game this season. Lindsay had a career high seven tackles in the game.
Brady Amack had a career-high 10 tackles, which is the most by a Falcon this season.
Jonathan Warzeka set a career high with 48 receiving yards and also tied a career high with three catches.
Jared Tew had season highs of 21 carries for 93 rushing yards.

Air Force has an all-time record of 330-275-13 in its 55th season of varsity football. The Falcons are 179-113-3 at home and 151-162-10 on the road and in neutral site games. AFA has played in 20 bowl games and has a 9-10-1 all-time record.
Air Force is playing in its 31st year in a conference. This season marks the school's 12th year in the Mountain West Conference. Prior to 1999, Air Force was a member of the Western Athletic Conference from 1980-98. The school was an independent prior to 1980.
Air Force is 43-40 as a member of the Mountain West Conference. The team is 26-16 at home and 17-24 on the road. The Falcons are 76-60 overall since joining the MWC in 1999, including marks of 44-24 at home, 27-32 on the road, 5-4 in neutral site games and 3-2 in bowls.
FALCON STADIUM GETS SOME LOVE
Falcon Stadium was voted as the most difficult tunnel to enter into a stadium in the Mountain West Conference in the latest ESPN The Magazine. In a player poll, 44 percent voted for the entrance quoting "All the cadets line up screaming about the altitude. Signs on the wall have the elevation too." The sign referenced says WARNING: Lack of Oxygen, Elevation: 6,621 feet above sea level.
ACADEMICS AND FOOTBALL
The Air Force football team has the second-highest multi-year Academic Progress Rate (APR) of any team in the Football Bowl Subdivision, according to a report issued by the NCAA. The program's 988 ranks second only to Rutgers, who had a 992, among the 120 FBS football playing schools. Rounding out the top five were Rice (987), Northwestern (986) and Duke (983). The multi-year APR is for the 2005-06, 2006-07, 2007-08 and 2008-89 academic years.
Air Force's number is easily the best within the Mountain West Conference. TCU is second with a 968 while Utah is third at 949. Colorado State is fourth with a 945 followed by BYU (940), New Mexico and UNLV (934), San Diego State (931) and Wyoming (928). The Academy is also the highest ranking service academy, as Navy posted a 973 and Army a 964.
In addition, the Air Force football team once again had the top Graduation Success Rate (GSR) in the Mountain West Conference in the recently released report for 1999-2002. Air Force's 87 percent is followed by Colorado State and TCU with 65. The national average for FBS schools was 64 percent.
CALHOUN LEADS THE NATION IN COACHES APR
Air Force football coach Troy Calhoun led the nation in Academic Progress Rates for Division I head coaches released by the NCAA. Calhoun has a three-year average of 986, posting a 981 in 2006-07, a 989 in 2007-08 and a 987 for 2008-09. Ken Niumatalolo of Navy (978) ranked second nationally followed by Randy Shannon of Miami (977).
The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation and provides a measure of each team's academic performance.

WATCH LISTS / HONORS
Junior placekicker Erik Soderberg was named to the Watch List for the 2010 Lou Groza Collegiate Placekicker Award, released by the Palm Beach County Sports Commission.
Senior defensive back Reggie Rembert was named to the 2010 Paul Hornung Award watch list. Rembert was one of 48 players on the watch list for the award, given annually to the most versatile player in major college football.
Rembert is also one of 30 NCAA® football bowl subdivision student-athletes who excel both on and off the field and were selected as candidates for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award in football. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence - community, classroom, character and competition.

JEFFERSON WINNING GAMES
Junior QB Tim Jefferson has a 14-7 career record as a starter.
Jefferson ranks sixth in Air Force history in career wins by a quarterback with 14.
His 12 wins entering the season ranked second in the MWC and 13th nationally among active quarterbacks. TCU's Andy Dalton entered the season with the conference and national lead with 29 wins.
CALHOUN TO VISIT TROOPS IN 2011
Air Force football coach Troy Calhoun will once again visit military troops overseas in 2011. This will be the coach's second trip to visit troops, as he visited the Middle East during the summer of 2009.
This year's visit will take place from Feb. 12-20 and locations and additional details are still being determined. Calhoun will be joined by other service academy head coaches Rich Ellerson of Army and Ken Niumatalolo of Navy, along with Bill George of the Coast Guard Academy and Mike Toop of the Merchant Marine Academy.
Calhoun was joined by Mack Brown of Texas, Jim Tressel of Ohio State, UCLA's Rick Neuheisel and Houston Nutt of Mississippi, along with former Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville on the 2009 tour.
The trip is coordinated through Armed Forces Entertainment, a Department of Defense agency, and Morale Entertainment.

WALLERSTEDT, DEFENSE HONORED FOR BYU VICTORY
Air Force defensive coordinator Matt Wallerstedt was named the Rivals.com national coordinator of the week as the Falcons beat 24th-ranked BYU, 35-14, Sept. 11 at Falcon Stadium.
After allowing 183 yards of total offense in the first quarter, the Falcons held BYU to just 126 total yards in the final three quarters today. AFA held BYU to just 88 yards passing, the first time the Cougars have been held under 100 yards since 2003. The Falcons held BYU to just 14 points, the fewest points the Falcons have allowed to the Cougars since the 24-10 Air Force win in 2003. The 88 passing yards allowed are the best mark ever by an Air Force defense against BYU. The previous best was 159 in 1988. It is also the first time Air Force has ever held BYU without a passing touchdown.
