Ted Artz, Christine Hagan Pace Falcons at Rocky Mountain Shootout

BOULDER, Colo. - Junior Ted Artz and freshman Christine Hagan paced their respective squads, as the Air Force cross country team picked up matching third-place finishes among Division I programs at the 26th annual Rocky Mountain Shootout on Saturday, Oct. 1, in Boulder, Colo. Artz finished 27th in the men's 8K race, while Hagan placed 35th in the women's 5.8K event.
Artz crossed the Buffalo Ranch Course finish line in an 8K time of 27:20 to place 27th among 164 total runners. All five scoring runners finished within the top 50, while a total of seven Falcons finished in the top half of the field. Senior Nick White finished 34th with a time of 27:42, while junior Gage Owens clocked a time of 27:57 to place 41st. Classmate Seth Pelletier (28:03) and sophomore Carson Fugal (28:12) rounded out the Falcons' scoring runners with respective 44th- and 48th-place finishes.
Sophomore Matt Caldwell finished 58th with a time of 28:32, while junior Sam O'Hair clocked a time of 29:18 to finish 77th. Freshman Zack Christenson rounded out the Falcons' contingent with a 97th-place time of 30:01.
Among Division I schools, the Falcons tallied 76 points to finish third in the four-team men's standings. Colorado, ranked seventh in the nation, collected just 15 points to win the race for the 21st straight year, while Wyoming finished third with 52 points. Northern Colorado finished fourth behind the Falcons with 112 points.
On the women's side, eight Falcons placed within the top third of the 171-runner field. Hagan and sophomore Amanda Blain clocked matching times of 23:38 to finish 35th and 36th, respectively, while freshman Rebecca Esselstein placed 40th in a time of 23:43. A pair of freshmen, Taylor Drolshagen and Emily Hazen, rounded out the Falcons' scoring runners, as Drolshagen finished 44th in 23:48 and Hazen took 46th in 23:59.
Sophomore Adrianna Dong clocked a time of 24:11 to finish 48th, while senior Alexa Ramsier and freshman Michelle Ferguson finished 52nd (24:21) and 55th (24:25), respectively. Sophomore Tasha Mayne finished 67th in 24:47 and classmate Stephaney Saari rounded out Air Force's runners with a 72nd-place time of 24:55.
The women combined for 91 points to place third behind fourth-ranked Colorado (16 points) and Wyoming (49 points). Northern Colorado tallied 108 points to finish fourth, while Nebraska-Omaha finished fifth with 135 points.
The Falcons return to action on Saturday, Oct. 8, when they travel to Hays, Kan., for the annual Tiger Invitational, hosted by Fort Hays State.
