Air Force goalkeeper Hannah Schwartz made five saves and posted her second career shutout as the Falcons and Northern Arizona battled to a scoreless tie Sunday afternoon at Cadet Soccer Stadium. Air Force moved to 5-5-2 this season while NAU is now 1-8-4.Schwartz, a freshman, made two saves in the first half and three in the second half. Senior Krystin Shanklin led the Falcons with three total shots and two on goal, but had a penalty kick saved by NAU keeper Lauren Weaver in the 53rd minute. Weaver finished the game with six saves.
The Lumberjacks had two great scoring opportunities, one early and one late. Jenna Samora hit the post in the 11th minute after Schwartz mishandled a back pass and Samora gathered it right in front of the net. Then, in the second overtime, Ally Cwiekowski and Schwartz battled for a crossing pass in the box, which Cwiekowski controlled and banged a shot off the crossbar from about 16 yards out. The rebound came right to her teammate Lindsay Olsen, who had an open net but her shot slid just wide.
Samora and Sam Monahan led the Lumberjacks with three shots apiece.
The Falcons resume action next weekend with their Mountain West opener at Boise State on Saturday, Oct. 8.
