Air Force Falls in Mountain West Quarterfinal

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The Air Force volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to Colorado State during the quarterfinal match of the Mountain West Conference Volleyball Tournament in Albuquerque, N.M., on Friday, Nov. 18. The eighth-seeded Falcons fell in straight 25-16, 25-12, 25-10 sets to the top-seeded Rams.
Sophomore Cami Richan used a kill to put down the first point of the match and added a second to even the score at two. Colorado State scored the next four points, before the Falcons tallied three of the next four to pull within two. Freshmen Victoria Foster and Ayesha Hein combined for three kills as Air Force pulled within two at 8-6. Freshman Lizzy Carpenter and Richan added kills to keep Air Force within two (11-9). Following a timeout by Colorado State, the Rams scored five of the next six points to go up 16-10. Air Force scored four of the next six points to pull within four (18-14), as Richan put down a kill and Foster added three. The Rams closed out the set on a 7-2 run to win the set 25-16.
Colorado State scored the first two points of the second set, but Air Force quickly evened the score at two. An attack by Hein resulted in a point for the Falcons as Colorado State mishandled the dig, while Carpenter and classmate Kristen Holt teamed up for a block. A kill from Richan was the Falcons' lone point during an 8-1 run by the Rams (10-3). Air Force three points off of errors by the Rams, but CSU increased its lead to 18-6. Kills by Foster, Hein and Richan helped the Falcons reach the 10-point marks, but Colorado State took the set by a 25-12 score.
The Rams jumped out to a fast 10-0 lead in the third set, before Richan put down a kill. Following two more scores by the Rams, Air Force tallied five of the next seven points. Holt contributed to three of those points, recording a pair of kills and assisting with Foster on a block. CSU went up 17-6, before Foster added another kill. Hein added one final kill, as the Rams won the set by a 25-10 score.
Richan paced the Falcons with eight kills, while Foster added six. Freshman Hillary Keltner collected 11 assists, while sophomore Josalynn Wise recorded nine. Junior Maiya Perich collected 10 digs, while Holt led the Falcons with a pair of assisted stops.
Air Force remains on the road for a pair of non-conference matches in California. The Falcons will face No. 18 Pepperdine on Tuesday, Nov. 22, before concluding the season at Cal State Northridge on Friday, Nov. 25.
