WOODLAND, Calif. - Air Force freshman Colton Wulf was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Gymnast of the Week, the league announced this afternoon (Feb. 1). In his first collegiate all-around competition, Wulf posted the Falcons' best finishes on a pair of events, including a runner-up finish on the floor exercise, as Air Force tallied its highest score of the season at 334.400.
The native of Wheat Ridge, Colo., scored a team-leading, career-best tally of 14.650 to place second on the floor exercise. That score, the highest on the team this season by a 0.650 margin, is the 10th-best total in Academy history. Wulf also paced the Falcons on the parallel bars, scoring a 13.900 to finish fifth. In his collegiate debut on that event, Wulf posted the best score by an Air Force gymnast this season and the 15th-best p-bars score in program history.
Wulf, who matched his personal-best tally on the high bar at 13.300 and posted a new career mark on the vault (14.900), claimed a fourth-place finish in his all-around debut at 81.250.
Wulf and the rest of the 12th-ranked Air Force squad return to team competition on Friday, Feb. 18, when they head to Minneapolis, Minn., for a dual meet with the seventh-ranked Gophers. The Falcons will also travel to Aliso Viejo, Calif., that weekend (Sunday, Feb. 20) for the annual All-Academy Championships against service academy rivals, Army and Navy.
