Falcons Fall to University of Hawaii, 7-0

The University of Hawai`i men's tennis team handed Air Force its second loss in as many days with a 7-0 win over the Falcons Tuesday afternoon at the UH Tennis Complex. The Rainbow Warriors improved to 3-8 on the season, while the Falcons fell to 8-5.
Hawai'i opened with wins at all three doubles matches to claim a 1-0 lead. The closest match was at the No. 2 spot, where senior Taylor Soster and freshman Lucas Marin-Salcedo lost 8-7(3) to Jeremy Tweedt and David Schuster.
In singles action, the Rainbow Warriors claimed victory on all six courts. Dennis Lajola took down Lance Wilhelm, 6-2, 6-3, at the No. 1 position, while Tweedt defeated Marin-Salcedo, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 2. The Falcons pushed the Nos. 4 and 5 matches to three sets, but freshman Alex Grubbs fell to Dmytro Kovalyov, 2-6, 7-5, (10-6), while fellow frosh Steven Young lost to Schuster, 6-1, 6-7(6), (10-4).
"This was a tough loss for us today," said head coach Dan Oosterhous. "It's especially tough when we don't get a point on the board. The guys are working their tails off and getting themselves in positions to win, but we're struggling to close out matches. Our guys will continue to grow from these experiences and get stronger."
The Falcons take a day off before facing Hawaii-Hilo on Thursday morning.

Today started out great-we got up for a nice hearty breakfast at the cafe overlooking Waikiki Beach. Today was also the day we played the best team so far, University of Hawaii. After our loss Monday, there was a certain energy we all felt about competing today. I felt everybody on the team was eager to set foot on the court and avenge the disheartening loss we suffered yesterday. Unfortunately, this energy didn't convert into a win and we lost all the matches. I thought this result was unfortunate because we definitely came out and competed, we were just outplayed.
After the match a few of us went out to eat authentic Japanese ramen which was truly an amazing experience. We then hit 50 balls at a drving range and walked around for about 2 hours. We closed the day with an all-you-can eat seafood buffet. Overall, it was a great day in Hawaii."
