Falcons Fall at Utah State, 5-2

The Air Force men's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to Utah State Thursday in Logan, Utah. With the loss, Air Force fell to 10-10 this spring.
Utah State won the doubles point by sweeping all three contests. At the No. 1 spot, Bryan Marchant and Sven Poslusny downed Lance Wilhelm and Steven Young, 8-3, while Jakob Asplund and Nikita Ryaschenko won the No. 3 match, 8-4, over Taylor Soster and Sam Barnes for the team lead.
The best doubles match was at No. 2, where Alex Thatcher and Fredrik Peterson edged Andy Jackson and Alex Grubbs, 8-7, and secured the sweep for Utah State in doubles play.
In singles play, Soster won the No. 3 match in three sets over Peterson, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3, while Young snuck past Thatcher at No. 5, 6-1, 4-6, (12-10). The only other three-setter was at the No. 6 spot, where Ryashchenko downed Alex Beaussart, 6-3, 4-6, (10-5)
"I thought our guys played well today but we need to get off to better starts in doubles and singles," said head coach Dan Oosterhous. "We fell behind early and, despite a strong finish, we couldn't make up enough ground."
The Falcons return to Mountain West Conference action on Friday, April 15 against Utah in Salt Lake City, Utah. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
