The Air Force men's tennis team won its final home match of the 2011 season Thursday, blanking South Dakota State 7-0. With the victory, Air Force improved to 10-9 this spring.
The Falcons won the doubles point for the second consecutive match by sweeping all three contests rather handily. Freshmen Andy Jackson and Alex Grubbs were off the court first, winning the No. 2 match, 8-1, over Jamie Dash and Dominic Rossetto. Senior Alex Beaussart, playing the final home match of his career, paired with sophomore Sam Barnes to win the No. 3 match over James Thorp and Carl Lundberg 8-3. AFA's No. 1 doubles team of senior Taylor Soster and freshman Lucas Marin-Salcedo finalized the sweep with an 8-4 triumph over Justin Pyle and Chris Baron.
In singles play, the Falcons kept rolling, winning all six matches. Marin-Salcedo (No. 1), Soster (No. 2), Grubbs (No. 4) and Beaussart (No. 6) each won in straight sets, while Jackson (No. 3) and freshman Steven Young (No. 5) rallied from losing the first set to win in three sets.
"This was a nice way for our two seniors, Taylor Soster and Alex Beaussart to finish their home careers," said head coach Dan Oosterhous. "They each had two wins today and both played well in their last match at USAFA."
