NEW ORLEANS, La. - Despite a week off from competition, the Air Force women's cross country team made its season debut in the Mountain Region cross country rankings, the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced on Monday, Sept. 26. The women entered the Mountain Region's top-15 ranked 12th.
It matches the best weekly regional rankings for the women's program since the 2009 preseason standings. Air Force was also ranked 12th three weeks last season.
The squad was one of three teams to enter the regional rankings this week, joining Oklahoma (Midwest Region) and East Carolina (Southeast Region). In the Mountain Region, New Mexico continues to hold the top spot, while Colorado, BYU, Texas Tech and Colorado State round out the top five.
The men remained fourth in the Mountain Region.
USTFCCCA Regional Cross Country Rankings are determined subjectively by a single member coach in each respective region. The regional representative is tasked with weighing returning team strength with current season results in determining the predicted team finishes at the NCAA Regional Championships.
Select Falcons will travel to South Bend, Ind., on Friday, Sept. 30, for the adidas/Notre Dame Invitational, while the rest of the squad heads to Boulder, Colo., for the 26th annual Rocky Mountain Shootout.
