Falcons Fall In Double-Overtime At St. John's

QUEENS, N.Y. - The Air Force women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 match at St. John's in double-overtime Friday night at Belson Stadium. The Falcons were handed their first defeat of the season, falling to 2-1, while the Red Storm improved to 2-1.
The loss spoiled a strong late rally by the Falcons, who had tied the game up with less than three minutes remaining in regulation. St. John's scored in the 108th minute to pull out the win.
St. John's scored eight minutes into the match on a goal by Runa Stefansdottir. The Red Storm then led for nearly 80 minutes until the Falcons tied it up.
Senior forward Stephanie Patterson found the back of the net for Air Force in the 87th minute to tie it up. Junior forward Megan Dozier assisted on the score.
Emily Cubbage scored the game-winner at the 108:14 mark to lift the Red Storm to the win.
Falcon goalkeeper Kelly Stambaugh notched four saves in the loss.
Both teams attempted 15 shots, six on goal.
Air Force returns to action Sunday, Aug. 26 at Fairleigh Dickinson. Kickoff is 12 p.m. EST.
