Falcons Return Home For Six-Game Homestand
After playing four of its first five games on the road, the Air Force men's soccer team returns home for a six-game homestand at Cadet Soccer Stadium. The Falcons will host San Diego State on Friday, Sept. 20 at 7 p.m., and Bradley University on Sunday, Sept. 22 at 1:30 p.m. Both games will be streamed live on the Mountain West Digital Network.
Air Force Blanked Twice in Oregon
The Falcons fell to 0-5 this season with a pair of losses at the Oregon State Hensor/Zaher Nike Classic last weekend. Air Force dropped a 4-0 decision to Portland on Friday and lost 2-0 to
Oregon State on Sunday. Junior Matt Payne led the team with three shots on goal against Portland and fellow junior Zachary Modly had a team-high two against Oregon State. Freshman goalkeeper Jake Schenk made a career-high seven saves against Oregon State.
Falcons Still Having Trouble Finding the Net
Since senior Brian Klazura scored just 2:55 into the season-opening game at St. Mary's College, the Falcons have gone nearly five full games without scoring a goal. Air Force has been outscored 12-1, including 8-0 in the second half, in its five games.
Modly Near the Top of WAC in Shots
Modly is ranked second in the WAC with 19 total shots this season. He is the runaway leader on the team with eight more than Payne. Meanwhile, Schenk is second in the league in saves per game at 5.0 and fifth in saves percentage at .690.
Slowest Start in Five Years
Air Force's 0-5 start in the worst since it started 0-5 in 2008. The Falcons also scored just one goal in the first games that season, but won three of their next four games en route to a 5-13 overall record.
Falcons Picked Second in WAC Preseason Rankings
The Falcons were picked to finish second in the WAC Preseason Coaches' Poll. Bakersfield was predicted to win the conference by the eight league coaches. Air Force senior Caleb Downey was selected as the preseason Defensive Player of the Year and fellow senior Brian Klazura joined Downey on the preseason all-WAC team.
Back to the WAC
After spending the last 14 years playing in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, the Falcons will begin play, once again, in the Western Athletic Conference in 2013. Air Force was a member of the WAC from 1996-98 before breaking off with seven other schools to form the Mountain West Conference. The MWC did not offer men's soccer, however, so the Falcons moved to the MPSF.
