San Jose State (3-7, 1-1 WAC) struck early and often, building a 3-0 lead just nine minutes into the match. Greg Harte scored at the 3:35 mark for the first goal. Kyle O'Mahoney scored just minutes later at the 5:54 mark. Rory Nibbs made it 3-0 with goal at the 8:54 mark to make.
Nibbs netted his second goal of the match in the 38th minute to put San Jose State up 4-0 at the half.
San Jose State made it 5-0 when Harte scored his second goal of the night in the 81st.
The Falcons (5-2-3, 1-1) got on the scoreboard in the 85th minute. Junior Ben Kern hit on a free kick from 25 yards out, curling the ball just under the crossbar for the score.
"We lost to a good team," head coach Doug Hill said. "And it was a team loss, not any one individuals. The most important thing is how we bounce back and respond for Sunday's home game. Defensively we struggled at the beginning of the match and they took advantage. We need to play like we did in the second half to compete. We have to continue to believe in what we did well in our first nine matches to continue our success."
San Jose State had a 18-17 advantage in shots. Air Force held a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks.
Freshman goalkeeper John Wendt recorded four saves in his Falcon debut. Wendt started in place of sophomore Jake Schenk, who sat out the game due to illness.
Air Force returns to action Sunday, Oct. 12, hosting Bakersfield.
