
Falcon water polo team sweeps games in So Cal Tourney

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. - The Air Force water polo team swept a pair of games to Top 20 teams at the SoCal Tournament, Saturday, Oct. 11, in Los Angeles, Calif. The 15th-ranked Falcons beat 20th-ranked St. Francis, 13-12 in overtime, and then defeated 17th-ranked Loyola-Marymount, 12-9.
In the first game, Air Force led 5-4 after one quarter and 8-7 at the end of the third. Air Force scored three in the fourth, but St. Francis scored four to send the game into overtime. Neither team scored in the first overtime, but the Falcons scored twice in the second overtime period for a 13-12 win. Jantz Johnson scored five goals and had three steals for the Falcons.
In the final game of the tournament, Air Force built a 7-4 lead at the half and then held off Loyola Marymount for a 12-9 win. Robby Stiefel led the offense with four goals while Ben Rogers and Petar Jackovich each had two.
Sophomore goalie Max Benson made 22 saves on the day to help lead the Falcons to a pair of wins.
Air Force concludes the road trip with a single game against Pomona-Pitzer, Monday, Oct. 13, at 3 p.m. PT.
