
Air Force Wraps Up Action at Rocky Mountain Shootout

BOULDER, Colo. - Members of the Air Force men's cross country team wrapped up competition at the 29th-annual Rocky Mountain Shootout in Boulder, Colo., this morning (Oct. 4). Freshman Forrest Isenhour paced a young Falcon squad to a second-place finish in the Division I team standings.
Isenhour completed the 8K circuit through Colorado's Buffalo Ranch Cross Country Course in a career-best 8K time of 26:46.1 to finish 31st in the overall field of 106. Isenhour paced a scoring squad that accounted for four top-40 finishes and three season-best marks. Fellow freshman Sean Lyons finished 34th with a time of 26:54.4, while sophomore Jason Engel posted a season-best time of 26:58.4 to finished 38th and freshman Conner Wilburn clocked a career-best time of 27:01.1 to finish 39th. Junior Kevin Mihalik rounded out the group of scoring runners with a 53rd-place, season-best time of 27:31.8.
Air Force finished fourth in the collegiate standings and second among Division I teams.
Top-ranked Colorado took the top six collegiate spots to win its home event with 15 points. Air Force placed second in the Division I field with 114 points, while Northern Colorado took third with 155. A pair of nationally-ranked Division II programs also competed in race, with sixth-ranked Colorado Mines winning the non-DI team title with 56 points and No. 3 Western State taking second with 63.
Six other Falcons also competed at the Rocky Mountain Shootout, including five that made their collegiate debuts. Freshman Jimmy Shipley finished one place behind Mihalik (54th) with a debut time of 27:33.0, while classmate Andrew Milliron completed his first race in 27:42.5 to finish 61st. Junior Grant Caswell (27:53.0) and freshman Colin Chehanske (debut of 27:59.8) finished 68th and 69th, respectively, while sophomore Grant Garst made his collegiate debut with a 73rd-place time of 28:13.9. Freshman Joe Taylor completed Air Force's contingent of runners with a debut time of 28:57.8 to finish 84th.
The Falcons are off from competition until Saturday, Oct. 18, when they travel to Terre Haute, Ind., for the Pre-Nationals Invitational at LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course - the site of the 2014 NCAA National Championships.
