COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Air Force volleyball juniors Akokwe Clement and Taylor Parker were honored by the Mountain West this morning (Dec. 1), as Clement was voted to the all-conference team and Parker was selected as all-MW honorable mention.
Clement's all-conference selection was the Falcons' first award since 2003, while Parker earned a spot on the league's inaugural honorable mention team. The two Air Force honorees equaled the total number of selections the Falcons had recorded since joining the Mountain West Conference (Summer Koons, 1999; Delavane Diaz, 2003).
Clement was ranked among the conference leaders in both kills (3.31 per set, fourth) and points (3.66, sixth) this season, while her 23 kills against SIUE was tied for fifth in the league in terms of single-match production. For the season, Clement totaled 401 kills, which is the second-highest single-season total in the Academy's Division I history. She also added a .218 hitting percentage, 234 digs, 58 blocks and eight service aces to her final stat line.
Parker, who became the program's first MW Player of the Week in four years earlier this season, hit at a .308 clip in league play this year, which was ranked 11th in the conference. Parker, who used a .301 overall hitting percentage to record the third-highest single-season average in Air Force DI history, also debuted in the program's DI standings in assisted blocks (75, second) and total blocks (87, seventh-tie). Parker also accounted for 224 kills and a team-leading 12 solo blocks on the season.
Air Force recorded its most conference wins (seven) and third-most overall wins (13) in DI history during a 13-19 season that included a 7-11 record in Mountain West play.
